Can we be protected from mobile phone radiation?
When the research findings first started to emerge about the health risks of mobile phones, people thought headsets would distance them from the problem radiation. As hands-free headsets and earpieces became more popular, it emerged that they weren't giving the protection hoped for.
Hands-free headsets and earpieces were thought to miss the radiation emitted from mobile phones. The strength of the radio wave radiation decreases rapidly with distance from the handset - exposure from a mobile phone even 10 cm from your head is far lower than if the phone is held in contact with your ear. This is because the mobile phone antenna is where the radiation plumes are emitted from.
As so often happens, research on the safety the headset/earpiece devices occurred after they became popular. Studies conducted in Europe have found that the earpieces themselves serve as an antennae that direct more elactromagnetic radiation into the ears. Different products may differ slightly in the amount of radiation that is emitted, but these studies found that the kits intensify radiation exposure to the ear canal and may actually raise the amount of radiation impacting the head.
Not only do headsets and earpieces potentially increase our risk of harmful radiation to our head, their use also inadvertantly transfers radiation to other areas of our body. Many people relocate their mobile phone to their belt. In this position it is close to the major organs of our body. For females it is close to the area where an embryo or fetus is carried. Researchers are united in saying embryos/fetuses should not be exposed to radiofrequency radiation such as is emitted from mobile phones.
Several devices are on the market that claim to reduce, or convert the harmful radiation. These products come in the form of shields and attachments. Some products claim to be chips programmed to modulate the EMF radiation frequency to render it harmless and in harmony with our cell's own healthy state.
